what is Medical Tattooing?

Medical tattooing is a form of tattooing that utilizes special techniques to aestheticaly improve an area of the body that has been adversely affected by a procedure, disease or other defect that has compromised the skin tissue.

Why get Medical Tattooing?

There are many applications for medical tattooing, offering a realistic and natural replacement of features lost from surgery or other causes: 

   Areola Reconstruction post-Mastectomy 

   Breast cancer

   Gender-affirming top surgery

   Treatment of scar tissue

   Add pigment to Vitiligo

Why it's important 

With some post-nipple area complex (NAC) reconstructive breast surgeries, or gender affirming surgeries, tattooing is done to roughly approximate areola color in the absence of nipple tissue. These are done often by a surgeon with no special training in tattooing. The resulting tattoos can potentially be poorly placed or improperly applied resulting in inconsistent color tone and an unnatural appearance. Unsatisfactory results can lead to heightened feelings of frustration, loss, and emotional distress for the patient. 

How it's done

We start with an in-depth consultation process, discussing the client's needs and looking at examples of what the client expects and is looking for. We may offer free areola temporary tattoos as an option for decision making. Then, using specialized pigments, art training, and decades of tattooing experience we create a dimensional color portrait of the areola and nipple in tattoo form. We can achieve a permanent result that looks realistic and natural, restoring a sense of bodily wholeness and confidence.
